Björn Bernström

My name is Björn Bernström and I am a watercolor artist. I was born in Hultsfred, Sweden in 1966 and moved to Stockholm in 1986. I studied art at Ölands Skogsby between 1994-1995 and that was a start point for my way to became a full time artist. Over the years I have participated in more than 80 shows in Scandinavia and abroad and I also have had the pleasure of working as a workshop instructor in watercolor in Scandinavia and around the world. This far I've done workshops in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Australia, Italy, Dominica, Canada and the US.

Early on in my childhood I was interested in sketching. Especially birds, as I was a bird watcher. At the age of about 25 I found watercolor and got addicted. At this time I had swapped from birds to landscapes. I found abandoned areas and run-down old barns and houses around us, inspiring. Overdue housing seemed to tell a story, which inspired me. And still do. After farmland I moved on to urban sceneries and figure works. Whatever the subject is there has to be light and something in the picture that catch the viewer. A twist, something unexpected. Something more than just a pretty watercolor.
